I live to travel
“People don’t take trips – trips take people.” – John Steinbeck
“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page.” – St. Augustine
“NOT I – NOT ANYONE else, can travel that road for you, You must travel it for yourself.” – Walt Whitman
“You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” –J.R.R. Tolkien
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” – Mark Twain
Travel I have done in recent years
A brief biography of Mrs. hynes
I was born in California, but lived in Michigan from second grade on. I was the youngest child of three, with one older sister and one older brother. As a child, I lived on a small farm where we raised cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and a goat. I loved animals, and we always had dogs and cats, as well as my pet pig Snorts, whom I raised on a baby bottle as a piglet. I often roamed the fields, woods, and swamps that surrounded my house, and learned to love the out-of-doors.
I was a good student, and worked hard to graduate with the top of my class. I stayed involved in many activities while in school including dance (ballet, tap, and jazz), volleyball, cross country, track, and numerous clubs. For college, I attended Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, then followed my love of modern dance to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a double major in Dance and English. I then moved to the big city of Chicago with a small group of friends to form a dance company.
For fifteen years I worked as a dance performer and choreographer, with a variety of companies, performing in Chicago, New York, Minneapolis, Detroit, and many other locales. During this time, I also worked as a server, bartender, and manager at a variety of restaurants in Chicago. For a time I was also the copy editor and assistant publisher of Velocity Magazine. My wonderful son, Aidan, was born in 1997, and so I ran a home daycare for two years, to spend as much time with him as possible.
I went to graduate school and substitute taught for two years, earning a Masters Degree in Education from Saint Xavier University in 2008. Since graduation, I have taught two years of English in the summer bridge program at Saint Laurence High School, and three years of Journalism and Literature at Liberty Junior High in Burbank. Since then I have been teaching 7th grade at Lindop in Broadview. I have taught language arts, reading, social studies, and now science! I have directed and choreographed the Lindop musical for several years and look forward to another great show this year!
I live in the southwest suburbs, happily married to my wonderfully-supportive husband Steve. I am mother to one son, step-mother to five daughters, and grandmother to four grandchildren! I love to travel, and do so as often as possible. I have seen Mexico, Canada, England, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, and Costa Rica, not to mention most of these wonderful United States! Besides traveling, my hobbies include reading, hiking, camping, yoga, working out, and spending time with my family. I am a vegetarian and I love dining out and eating good food!
I look forward to getting to know my new students and their families this year. Let's make this school year a great one!
